About

So, who is this Career Coach and why should I trust her?

My name is Michelle and I am a professionally trained Career, Life and Business Coach. I help seasoned professionals, with at least 12 - 15 years of work under their belt, find or create a more rewarding, customized and joy-filled job or career.

I'm what you call, a multipassionate woman. This means that I get bored easily and need new adventures and challenges in my life to keep me going. What this also means, is that I've quit a lot of jobs over the years because they no longer felt like the right fit or they started draining all of my energy. I've also found a lot of new jobs over the years. And in between I've done a lot of, what I call, career soul searching.

This career soul searching process has included reading all of the latest career help books, spending days in career centers, racking up countless hours taking personality, strength and interest surveys, and going on many informational interviews, between all of my networking activities to try to learn more about what others did to make money. I examined my values, my mission, my ideal work environment and corporate culture, all in an effort to find that job that would fill my soul more. Something that I would be proud to do.

I explored different avenues that would allow me to utilize all of my natural gifts, the skills I had picked up along the way, and be more aligned with my values of honesty, integrity, helpfulness and professionalism. After many years of career soul searching, I found a way to bring all of this together in a career that is custom fit for me. As a Coach and Consultant, I can make a difference and share my gifts with the world.

I've combined my skills, interests, talents and values with my experiences as a former recruiter and hiring manager in the corporate world, to make the career shifting process, an easier and insightful experience for others.

And now, I want to share what I learned along the way, with those who are burned out in their current career and want to go in a new direction, who've found themselves in the job market again, or who don't want to leave their current company or industry, but know they need to make some big changes, and fast.

I'm here to help you begin that process, stick with that process, and to accomplish your goals.

How did Michelle end up becoming a coach?

During the summer of 2011, a coach offered to talk with me when I told her I was having a mid-life career crisis and had no clue what I was going to do next. I told her what my career passions and interests were and all about the entrepreneurial endeavor that I had been working on, but had decided I needed to abandon.

After speaking with her for only a couple of hours, the light bulb wa turned on. By jasking me a lot of questions, she helped me realize how my past work experience and my passions had been propelling me in the same direction. With this new insight, I was able to figure out how to put them all together. I would be a Life Coach. I decided to get professional coach training at an International Coach Federation (ICF) accredited school, The Institute of Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC).

Many of the coach training programs out there are mighty "woo-woo." They weren't for me. I sought a program that would teach me all about coaching and how to coach in multiple disciplines (business, relationships, leadership, career, etc.), but with a more grounded, practical, scientific and business approach. I found that at iPEC. And, on top of that, I became a mentee of the business coach, Ali Brown, in her year-long entrepreneurial training program, Elevate.

What is Michelle's coaching philosophy and coaching style?

The ICF defines coaching as "partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential." This is what I do. But I also put on a mentoring hat and a consulting hat from time to time. When I'm wearing my coaching hat, I completely hold your agenda in that I do not tell you what to do or give you the answers that you really need to find for yourself. I do help you find them.

When I'm wearing my mentoring or consulting hat, I will give you lots of ideas, tell you what I've seen work for me and others, and will probably kick you in the butt from time to time when I see you doing things that are holding you back from obtaining your dreams and goals. I can be tender and I can be tough. You can always tell me what you need.

I get to know you - your dreams, your challenges, your fears, your strengths and what keeps you from accomplishing your goals.I ask you a lot of questions. I make you think. You might cry from time to time. I will listen. I won't judge. I'm there for you to bounce your crazy ideas off of. I'm there to give you lots of ideas. I'm there to hear about what is missing in your life and job and I help you overcome your obstacles in life.

I'll help you build your confidence. I'm a planner, so I help you create a plan to get you moving towards your goals. Sometimes you will be taking baby steps and other times you will be making giant leaps. I'll be behind you, pushing you towards your own glorious future.

I will hold you accountable. I will give you homework. Sometimes it will be a lot of homework. You will be proud of the work you do and will learn a lot about yourself. You will be further along in your life's journey after we've worked together.

I'm a dreamer and I like to dream big. I never surprise myself when I make my dreams a reality. I can help your dreams become a reality too.

Who does Michelle work with?

I primarily work with seasoned professionals who are usually over 35. You have work experience under your belt and you are beginning to know who you really are, or, you may be questioning who you are and how you got to this place. You may not have a clue what you should be doing with your life or career, but you are ready to make some major changes in your life because where you are now, is not working for you. You've been on Pause for too long and it is time for you to push Play.

I work with people who are looking for a job, trying to figure out what kind of work they really want to be doing, or who have burned out on their job, company or industry and want to make changes. I work with people who may be the next great entrepreneur, and I work with people who have been out of the workforce for a while and need help regaining their confidence. Whatever your situation, I will help you realize what great skills you bring to the table.

In addition to the Career, Life and Business coaching training I received from iPEC, I also have been trained as a professional Relationship Coach for Singles (Dating Coach.) So, if you need help on the dating front, I can help you with that as well. And finally, since I've got over 25 years of work experience, primarily corporate world, I definitely know a thing or two about business, professionalism, marketing, sales, and leadership.

Michelle's background and interests

  • Began working at 14 and learned that I liked working (and making money), which gave me more confidence and independence.
  • B.A. in Communications and English from Mercer University.
  • Completed an Outward Bound Program in Maine. Canoed on Class V rapids for 8 days. Jumped out of a few airplanes.
  • Moved to London in my early 20's to work in international advertising and marketing. Discovered my passion for traveling and the creative world.
  • Moved to Paris in my mid 20's for love and adventure. Continued working in advertising and marketing.
  • M.A. in Communications, focused on Integrated Marketing Communications (Advertising and PR) from the University of Alabama.
  • Moved to San Francisco to pursue advertising career since all of my Parisian friends said San Francisco was the most European-like U.S. city. (It's true.)
  • Learned how to sell products and services for other people, and myself when I wanted something.
  • Past work experience includes: recruitment firms, advertising agencies and services, non-profit, 7 media companies including Time, Inc. and The San Francisco Chronicle, over $6 million in annuals sales, large, international clients from around the world, and a stint in international education, which I loved. Couldn't stay there and afford to live in San Francisco at same time, though.
  • Left corporate America after multiple Director-level jobs to start my own company.
  • Have traveled to over 30 countries. Love learning about other cultures.
  • Enjoy cooking and eating all the great meals my foodie friends cook for me.
  • Thought I wanted to be a dating matchmaker. Became a Relationship Coach for Singles (Dating Coach) instead.
  • Became a Career Coach, Life Coach and Business Coach. Started helping people find more balance, have better relationships, have more confidence, accomplish more soul-filling activities at work, get promotions, find new jobs and start their own companies.
  • Working towards having homes in both San Francisco and Paris so that I can see my old friends and family in Atlanta while traveling between the two cities.
